NOTHING BUT BLUE is a 16-minute short film about German Olympic surfer Tim Elter – and his uncompromising passion for one of the most extreme and primal forms of surfing: tube riding.
Far from the hustle of competitions, the film unfolds as a visually striking and emotionally profound portrait of a young exceptional athlete who is constantly willing to push himself to his physical and mental limits.
21-year-old Tim offers honest and intimate insights into his inner world: he speaks about what it means to chase heavy waves, how he deals with frustration and mental pressure, what a serious injury taught him – and his paradoxical addiction to danger.
The central moment of the film is a spontaneous trip to Ireland, where Tim takes on the infamous wave “Aileen’s” – wild, unpredictable, raw, and breathtakingly beautiful.
NOTHING BUT BLUE is much more than a classic surf film: it is a cinematic exploration of the existential balance between risk and freedom, control and surrender – carried by an exceptionally intimate camera that documents a young man’s search for meaning, depth, and equilibrium.
The film reveals a side of Tim that few have seen: that of a vulnerable young man who, of all places, finds his deepest peace and truest joy in the eye of the storm.
